2017 Winter Events: What’s Going on in Alexandria and D.C. for the Holiday Season?

Although it seems like just yesterday we were planning trips to the beach and cookouts, Thanksgiving is just around the corner – it’s safe to say the holidays are here. Whether you enjoy feasts, family togetherness, or festivals, there’s something for everyone to do this winter in the DMV. Here are three of our favorite holiday ideas:

The Museum of the Bible Grand Opening

Just a few blocks from the Capitol building, the Museum of the Bible will be a 430,000 square-foot monument to the most important book in human history. With eight floors, a rooftop garden, and 40-foot-tall front doors made out of bronze, the museum is sure to be a captivating experience that helps visitors understand the Bible’s history and impact on the world. The museum opens on November 17.

Seasons Greenings 2017 at the United States Botanic Garden

The theme of this year’s holiday show at the botanic garden is Roadside Attractions. The model train show will feature train cars moving under, around, and over plant-based versions of some of the country’s most well-known roadside attractions, like the Cadillac Ranch in Texas, the Corn Palace in South Dakota, and Lucy the Elephant in New Jersey.

Christmas at Mount Vernon

George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate is always a special place, but it’s particularly nice around the holidays. Visit the historic Washington family home between November 24 and January 6 to partake in Christmas at Mount Vernon, which includes special events like a chocolate-making demonstration, holiday fifing, and a meet and greet with Aladdin the holiday camel! Tickets are available on Mount Vernon’s website.
