Labor Day 2016 in Alexandria

August comes to a close this week, and with its end comes the last few days of summer. But this time of year also means Labor Day, one of the most fun-filled holidays of the year in D.C., is on the horizon.

Below, we’re going over a few of our favorite local events for the long weekend:

Lincoln Theater 2016 Labor Day Weekend Music Festival

From Friday, September 2 through Sunday, September 4, you can enjoy a series of free shows at the Lincoln Theater on U Street. Concerts take place at 6 PM each evening and feature artists in a variety of styles including soul, funk, blues and rock. All shows are free, but RSVPs are encouraged by the venue.

Kennedy Center Page to Stage Festival

Are you a fan of theater? This weekend from Saturday through Monday, the Kennedy Center is offering a great chance to see upcoming performances. More than 50 regional theater companies will perform readings, plays and songs they are still working on, covering a range of topics from Peter Pan to the presidential election. All shows are free, but guests are advised to get there as early as possible to secure a good seat.

Carifesta

Bring some Caribbean flavor to your Labor Day celebration! The Carifesta Music & Arts Festival will be held on Labor Day itself from 12 PM to 8 PM at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center near the Federal Triangle metro. The free event celebrates Caribbean-American heritage and includes a food court, beer garden, crafts for sale, and international DJs and musical performances.
