Alexandria Neighborhood Spotlight: Port City Brewing Company

One of the most exciting things about Alexandria is the many local shops and businesses in the community. Fans of delicious beers in the DMV probably already know about Port City, one of the region’s most popular breweries.

About Port City Brewing Company

Port City was founded in January 2011 to provide the Mid-Atlantic market with innovative, top-quality beers made from the best possible ingredients. Some of their most popular varieties include:

  • Optimal Wit: a Belgian-style white ale with a crisp and citrusy finish, brewed with Spanish orange peels and coriander.
  • Monumental IPA: an India Pale Ale that strikes a perfect balance between bitter and sweet, designed to represent the East Coast IPA brewing style.
  • Downright Pilsner: One of Port City’s flagship beers, this medium-bodied pilsner has a spicy, hoppy finish.

Events at Port City Brewing

Besides excellent beer, Port City also contributes to the community by hosting unique events. Here’s a few on the horizon:

  • Joggers & Lagers: On Monday, August 1st at 7:00 PM, the brewery will host a 1, 3, or 5-mile run along the Holmes Run stream, starting and ending at the tasting room. Local eatery Old Blue BBQ will be there providing food.
  • Oktoberfest Release: On August 5, Port City celebrates the launch of their seasonal Marzen lager, Oktoberfest. The event kicks off at 3:00 PM – food trucks will begin serving at 5:30 PM. Local acoustic artist Taylor Carson will be performing from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
