Father's Day 2016 in Washington, D.C. and Alexandria

This weekend marks an important annual event for D.C. dads – Father’s Day is upon us once again. There are plenty of great activities going on for fathers and their families around D.C. and Alexandria. Here are a few of our favorites:

Father’s Day Weekend at Mount Vernon

If dad is a history buff or just looking for something different this year, he’ll love spending Father’s Day at George Washington’s historic estate. On June 19 the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant will be hosting a special Father’s Day spread, and a fully costumed George Washington character will discuss his role as a father of both his family and the young United States.

2016 Potomac River Father’s Day Cruises

Several of the area’s leading cruise companies are offering excellent deals on relaxing Potomac River cruise packages that the whole family will enjoy. Odyssey Cruises offers brunch and dinner buffet and cruise packages that include a free premium drink ticket for dads.

2016 DMV Cornhole and Beer Fest

For fathers who are into suds and some friendly competition, the 2016 DMV Cornhole and Beer Fest is taking place the day before Father’s Day, June 18, beginning at 10AM. There are 6 cornhole tournaments to partake in as well as live music and some of the area’s top food trucks serving up delicious snacks. Tickets are still available online.

Whatever you and dad plan on doing this weekend, if you need a hotel that’s comfortable and offers great value, look no further than the Holiday Inn Alexandria / Fort Belvoir. With great amenities like free breakfast, spacious rooms and a complimentary shuttle to the Huntington Metro stop, the Holiday Inn is an excellent venue for this year’s Father’s Day fun in D.C.

This week, D.C.’s annual Jazz Festival celebrates its 11th year of educating the community and showcasing both internationally known and emerging jazz artists from D.C. and beyond. Here are a few highlights of this year’s festival:
