Labor Day Weekend in Alexandria

Labor Day is just around the corner and Northern Virginia has plenty of exciting events in store for the long weekend. This holiday typically signifies the end of summer, so it is a great time to enjoy the outdoors before the cooler weather sets in. Read on to learn out about some great festivals and events that will be taking place this Labor Day weekend in Alexandria!

Lake Ann Jazz and Blues Festival
Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, 1-8 p.m. This free, family-friendly event will showcase a variety of talented local emerging artists and national jazz performers. Lake Anne Jazz Week performances will be held August 30-Sept. 5.

 “Under a Summer Sun” Exhibit
May 31-Sept. 27, 2015. This exhibit takes place at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter in Alexandria, as part of Del Ray Artisans’ Gallery Without Walls program, in partnership with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. Artworks include a variety of styles and media inspired by our furry friends’ love of summer.

Movies on the Potomac
Sept. 6, 2015, 6-8 p.m. Nothing says summer like an evening under the stars—and there’s no better way to enjoy the season than Movies on the Potomac at National Harbor. Water Taxi to National Mall

Labor at Lee-Fendall House
Recurring daily. This guided tour will highlight the labor history of the house, in honor of Labor Day. The Lee-Fendall House was home and workplace to numerous free and enslaved laborers, as well as the home of John L. Lewis, president of the United Mine Workers, and one of the most powerful and controversial labor leaders in American history.
