Independence Day Celebrations in Alexandria

Alexandria is so close to our nation’s capitol, and in addition to the many Independence Day events happening across that great city, Alexandria has some gems to uncover and attend as well. Read on for a few great options:

An American Celebration at Mt. Vernon
Date: July 4, 2013
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Where: Mt. Vernon
Admission: Regular estate admission

During the daytime hours at Mt. Vernon on July Fourth, the home of George Washington celebrates he and the birth of our country with a unique daytime fireworks show extravaganza. In addition to military re-enactments and a wreathlaying ceremony, there will be a patriotic colored smoke fireworks show over the Potomac River.

Fireworks: A Birthday Celebration of Alexandria and the USA
Date: July 6, 2013
Time: 7:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Where: Oronoco Bay Park
Admission: Free

Each year on the Saturday following the Fourth of July, the city of Alexandria puts on its fireworks show in celebration of the birthday of Alexandria and the United States. Events are kicked off by the Town Crier at 7:30 with announcements, immediately followed by birthday cake. At 8:30, the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra will perform, immediately followed by the fireworks display to the 1812 Overture with cannon support by the United States Marine Corps Basic Training crew.
